BNM issues commemorative coins on Agong’s coronation

KUCHING: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) issued commemorative coins on Wednesday (Oct 2) to mark the coronation of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, which took place on July 20.

In a statement, BNM announced that the commemorative coins are available in three denominations: gold, sterling silver, and Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.).

“The gold coin is made of gold with 999.9 purity and weighs 8 grams. It has a face value of RM100 and will be sold at RM3,250 per piece. The mintage quantity is 300 pieces.

“The sterling silver coin, made of 92.5 purity silver, weighs 31 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM275 per piece. The mintage quantity is 1,300 pieces,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Nordic Gold B.U. coin is made of copper and several other metals and weighs 8.5 grams. It carries a face value of RM1 and will be sold for RM16.50 each, with 5,000 pieces available.

Additionally, a ‘Set of 2’, which includes one sterling silver coin and one Nordic gold coin, is priced at RM330. A total of 1,300 sets will be available for purchase.

“To provide a fair opportunity for the public to buy these limited-edition coins, there will be a purchase limit of one ‘Set of 2’, one gold coin, one sterling silver coin and up to five Nordic gold B.U. coins per person.

The public can place their orders at duit.bnm.gov.my from 11am Wednesday to 11pm Oct 13.

BNM also urged the public to place their orders exclusively through its online system and not via any third parties.

“All orders will be considered and no preference will be given to orders based on the order date and time. In the event of oversubscription, balloting will take place,” it added.
