SARIKEI: The body of a foreign crew member, who went missing after falling into the river from a ship near Susur Jambu Wharf, has been recovered with missing limbs.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the body was discovered floating at Muara Payang by members of the public at 9 am.

Rescuers were deployed to retrieve the remains and brought them to the search and rescue (SAR) control post for identification, as the body was incomplete.

The employer, EE Tai Shipping Sdn Bhd, confirmed that the deceased was Min Wai Lin, 45, from Myanmar.

Following identification, the body was handed over to the police for transportation to the hospital. The search operation was officially called off at 10 am.

Last Tuesday, Min fell into the river at around 6.10 am while the MV EE Tai No 1, a ship owned by EE Tai Shipping Sdn Bhd, was preparing to dock and unload gravel.

Two colleagues witnessed the fall and immediately alerted the helmsman.

Despite efforts to throw a life ring buoy and deploying a boat, rescue efforts were unsuccessful.

Firefighters from Sarikei station were dispatched to commence the operation after receiving an emergency call.
