MARUDI: The body of a 67-year-old Penan man, Jangin Luwau, who was involved in a capsized boat incident with five others in Sungai Tutoh, Ulu Baram was found on the fourth day of the Search and Rescue Operation (SAR) last Friday.
“The fourth day of SAR operation was divided into two teams -SAR 1 and SAR 2, where the search was conducted at about 10km downstream from the location of the boat capsize and wooden branches and logs downstream,” said Marudi fire and rescue station chief Maureen Sim.
The victim was found at 5.03 pm by SAR 1 team about 8km from where the boat was capsized.
“The body was found floating face down in Sungai Tutoh, downstream of the Kuala Puak,” said Sim.
Jangin’s body was still intact when the SAR teams found it floating in the river. The remains had been handed over to the police for further action.
Previously, it was reported that a boat carrying Jangin and five others had capsized while on its way to Ba Selulong from Kampung Long Bedian on July 17. The incident occurred at around 5.30 pm.
Five victims survived the ordeal, as they were able to get to safety when the boat capsized. Following the incident, a SAR was immediately initiated.
