BAU: The body of an Indonesian man, missing since Aug 13, was recovered from Mount Tabai on Thursday (Aug 29).

The remains of 26-year-old Yoga Anggiska were retrieved at 3.56pm by a team comprising firefighters, villagers, and his family members.

Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas, when met by reporters, confirmed that the body was found intact but in an advanced state of decay.

She added that the retrieval of the body was conducted in two phases.

“The team first entered the hole at 11.35am, locating the body about 90m deep.

“After exiting for a break at 12.25pm, they re-entered at 1.45pm to continue digging, finally recovering the whole body.

“The body was then placed in a body bag and the process of extricating the body from the hole was carried out,” she said.

She added the difficulty in extracting the body due to the narrow route, took quite a while.

DSP Jawai said the body would be sent to the hospital’s forensic department for a post-mortem. Given its condition, identifying the body by physical appearance will be challenging.

“A DNA comparison from a close relative, such as a sibling or his mother, will be necessary,” she said.

The case, initially classified as a missing person, will now be reclassified as a sudden death.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Forestry Corporation Kuching regional manager Asraf Julaihi Khan said that any area in Krian National Park is a restricted area and any mining activities are considered as illegal.

“After this, we will close off this area that has been encroached,” he said.
