KAPIT: The body of a man reported missing identified as Pelei Anak Ichang, 45, who was feared drowned at Sungai Song in Song district on Monday morning was found at 3.05 pm yesterday by a search and rescue (SAR) team comprising the police, Song BOMBA, Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel from Sibu, RELA, Song Voluntary Fire Fighting Group and 35 longhouse residents in 14 longboats.
The SAR mission led by Song BOMBA chief, Federick Aok found the body entangled in a fishing net set up by the victim’s brother about a kilometre away.
The body was later handed over to the police to be taken to Kapit Hospital for a post mortem. The victim (Pelei) hailed from Rumah John at Sungai Song was feared drowned on Monday morning when he fell from a boat while returning home from Song town.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident a foreign worker believed to be an Indian national was feared drowned when he felt from a cargo vessel at his workplace at a loading wharf at Batu Arang Nanga Tuli, Batang Rajang.
The incident was said to have happened at 10 am on Tuesday. The police and the search and rescue (SAR) team are looking for the worker after a missing person report was lodged yesterday afternoon. As at press time the man has still not been found yet.
