MIRI: Residents of Rh Edward Chai were shocked to start their morning with the discovery of a body in the Suai River today (Feb 22).
The body, identified as that of a 20-year-old woman, was found entangled in a fishing net at 7.10 am.
Firefighters from the Batu Niah station were dispatched to the scene, about 56km away, after receiving an emergency call about the discovery.
However, upon arrival, they found that the body had already been brought ashore by villagers while awaiting the arrival of the firefighters.
The body was later handed over to the victim’s family at Rh Boniface Bada in Sungai Senga, Tanjung Baru, Suai.
Also present at the scene were the police and the cause of death has yet to be determined.
The operation concluded at 8.48 am.
