INDONESIA: The Indonesia Border Importers and Exporter Association (APIEPINDO) will be playing an important role in the Indonesia-Malaysia trade relation.

In stating this, Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said although the said association has just been established, it is seen to be able to help entrepreneurs from both countries.

Good relations and cooperation between Indonesian-Malaysian importers and exporters will definitely boost the trade sector between Tebedu and Indonesia while also opening up more job and business opportunities for local residents, he pointed out.

“Congratulations and well done for successfully establishing APIEPINDO and I understand that it is the only association established on the border of Indonesia especially in Entikong.

“The establishment of APIEPINDO is expected to help in reducing cases of smuggling at the border which has been difficult to stop,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in a news report.

Earlier yesterday, Riot witnessed the signing ceremony of the appointment of the leadership document of APIEPINDO for the 2022-2025 session at the Entikong Border Post’s (PLBN) Hall.

Riot added he will ensure that APIEPINDO’s collaboration with Sarawak businessmen, especially from Kuching, Serian and Tebedu, is enhanced to boost business activities at the border.

“If we look at the past 10 years, Tebedu Land Port once recorded a trade volume worth RM600 million, of which is Indonesia’s export value and RM400 million in import value.

“However the trade value decreased due to COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 until today,” he said.
