KUCHING: The Hing Ann Association Kuching is welcoming more from the Heng Hua community in the district to register as its members.

There are approximately about 20,000 Heng Huas in Kuching, but currently, the association only has 2,600 registered members, said the association president Michael Teo Kim Huat.

“We, therefore, call upon those that have yet to be our members to register to enjoy the various benefits that are available,” he said when met by reporters after the distribution of ang pows to the elderly members at the association’s premises, in Jalan Padungan today.

He said the benefits included providing scholarships for students and education incentives for Primary 1 right up to university students.

“Two years ago, our association approved two types of incentives for university graduates as an encouragement for them to further their education and also a second pregnancy incentive of RM500,” he said.

He shared that for those who had completed their degree courses, an incentive of RM500 each would be given, while RM1,000 each would be given to holders of Master’s degree and each member with PhD would get RM2,000.

“For those wanting to join as a member, the lifetime membership fee will be RM20 for those below 60 years old, while membership fee will be free for those aged 60 and above,” he said.

On another note, Teo hoped that the Covid-19 situation would subside so that the association could celebrate its 75th anniversary this year.

“We were supposed to celebrate it early this year, but due to Covid-19 we had to postpone it to a later date,” he said.
