Step into a world where fashion meets Frida Kahlo’s vivid spirit, creating a colourful and popular clothing line.
A Frida Kahlo tribute
A fashion brand has launched a collection featuring the image of Frida Kahlo the Mexican painter (1907-1954), an icon of the contemporary world, online.
It was like seeing an outfit transformed into a canvas, with Kahlo staring at us in her traditional Tehuana dress.
She often incorporated strong autobiographical elements into her paintings and blended realism with fantasy.
The collection was bright and bohemian!
Moses Law responded to our interview almost immediately, despite the fact that he was in Kuala Lumpur for an entrepreneur awards meeting.
“Kahlo was a feminist icon through her character, activism, and art. She had a passion for Mexico and its folklore. She lived a colourful life, embraced her differences, became a master of self-portraiture, and had a multifaceted life,” said Law.
The bohemian-inspired collection “Exotic Eclecticism” emerged in the warm summer of 2023, and during the opening of the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2023.
There was artistic expression in every piece that stood as a testament to the beauty of Kahlo, the most famous painter ever used for promotion in any fashion accessories.
So, if you like Bohemian style and want to express yourself with a Kahlo image, wear one from Tangoo!
It takes two to tango for simple reasoning and in this case, it took Law and Eric Leong to form Tangoo in 2002.
Tangoo derives its name from their shared passion for Tango and the subsequent implementation of designs based on it.
With a strong bond forged by their love of fashion and their shared affinity for the Tango dance, they embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on the industry.
Initially targeting the vibrant West Malaysian market, Tangoo captured the hearts of shoppers in Kuala Lumpur’s bustling malls.
Their designs were influenced by the graceful aesthetics of the dance, infusing elegance and movement into every piece.
The brand’s evolution has been extraordinary and it has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of the Malaysian fashion scene.
Tangoo’s distinctive and innovative creations took centre stage at a number of celebrated fashion exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur.
Their unparalleled designs not only enthralled the local audience, but also earned them a prestigious invitation to the renowned Paris Fashion Week — an unequivocal testament to their boundless creativity.
Law, the driving force behind Tangoo’s artistic vision, blends meticulous attention to detail with a genuine passion for crafting garments that are as functional as they are beautiful.
Together with Eric, whose knowledge in banking provided a fresh perspective, they steered their brand towards growth and triumph.
“We want it to be an illustrious fashion powerhouse, serving as a cultural bridge and epitomising the fusion of creativity and passion,” said Law, adding that the brand has been represented in many key global fashion destinations such as China, London Fashion Week, Indonesia Jakarta Islamic Fashion Festival, and Germany Dusseldorf exhibitions.
Tangoo’s illustrious journey has also earned it an array of prestigious awards, including the coveted MIFA Best Performance Award and MIFA Pret a Porter Award, as well as the Stylo Best Designer of the Year accolade and an award from Saudi Arabia.
Their influence, however, goes beyond accolades. Tangoo’s affiliation with Royal Terengganu through Yayasan Tuanku Nur Zahirah reveals their connection to tradition and heritage, seamlessly integrating contemporary design with timeless values.
“Our brand has captivated some global media platforms, with interviews gracing the likes of Phoenix Channel HK, NHK Japan, Thailand Fashion Channel, Harper’s Bazaar Thailand, and Damascus Lebanon Fashion Magazine. These conversations serve as a testament to our global reach and enduring influence,” said Law proudly.
