KUCHING: Following a deep interest in the field of beauty, Allessandra Uyang Billy, 22, is now boldly venturing into the beauty business as a side income.
This young girl from Long Miri Baram said that she had to face various challenges in order to remain in the field.
“I started dabbling in this field in 2018 as a result of my interest in seeing facial treatments done by other people.
“Then I tried hard to raise money to attend the training offered in the business,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.
According to Allesandra, she is prepared to quit her full-time job because she wants to focus on the beauty business.
“I started this business by offering a variety of services including hair colouring, eyelash extensions and others.
“However, in 2020 I then took a nail care class (pedicure/medicure) and made it my main business until today,” she added.
These small businesses are only run at home and are also used as a way to fill the free time after coming home from work.
“In the early days of operation, my business did not receive much response from customers.
“Although I set the service price at a low rate of RM10, it has not been able to attract the attention of customers to get service from me,” she said.
However, Allesandra did not give up hope and kept moving forward because she believes that sustenance is always available and open to everyone.
“After surviving for about two years, I am very grateful that my business has started to be noticed and has become the choice of some customers.
“Many people are starting to recognise the services I offer and many like my handiwork,” she said.
Because she is only doing it as a sideline income, Allesandra limits the number of clients she receives in a day.
“Normally, I start the operation at night on weekdays excluding weekends.
“However, on Sundays I am able to complete nail treatments for more than six customers,” she added.
She also often uses social media platforms to promote her business.
According to her, she prioritises the quality of her handiwork when delivering services to customers.
“I never feel that there is an advantage in my service from others because I am still learning and will continue to improve the service from time to time for the sake of customer satisfaction.
“However, I am still grateful because every customer who comes to me is always satisfied with the results they get,” she said.
She also described that business is not a competition to show off who is better and great but to find a decent livelihood.
