BAU: The local Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba) in Bau received a distressed call of that a male Dutch tourist, 24, hurt his ankle while scaling the Mount Singai yesterday.

Bomba in Bau immediately despatched assets consisting of Atego, EMRS, Isuzu Dmax and Perodua Kembara together with 13 personnel assisted by seven members of the Civil Defence Forces (APM).

It was found out the subject (male Dutch tourist) had twisted his ankle after being entangled by a tree root while descending the mountain. The rescue team tried to give him early treatment before placing him on a stretcher and brought him to Bau Hospital using a vehicle for further treatment.

The rescue operation ended fully at 2107 hours. It was headed by Operation Commander PKPgB Ebby Herwandy bin Sarbini (Bau’s Bomba chief), according to information from Pusat Gerakan Operasi Bomba Sarawak yesterday.
