MULU: The MI-171 helicopter used by the Bomba Air Unit on Tuesday performed six water scooping operations and dropped 2,000 litres of water on fires that were burning through Batu Bungan trail near a Penan settlement.
“The operation started at 2pm and ended around 4.30pm,” said Miri Fire and Rescue department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.
He said the two and half hours’ operation successfully put out the fires.
On Sunday, thick smokes were spotted over the Batu Bungan trail. Bomba Miri responded by sending in the MI-171 helicopter.
