LAWAS: A flash flood incident this morning (May 24) prompted the evacuation of students and staff from SK Siang Siang in Lawas District.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Lawas fire station received an emergency call at 7:45 am seeking assistance for the evacuation.

Firefighters reported that floodwaters had surged to a height of four feet (1.22 metres) upon arrival at the scene.

Approximately 56 students were affected and stranded in their boarding hostel, requiring Bomba’s intervention for safe evacuation.

Utilising an inflatable boat equipped with a 15hp outboard engine, firefighters swiftly transported the flood victims to safety.

The evacuation also included 16 teachers, two kitchen staff members, and four school security personnel.

Following the rescue operation, the students were reunited with their parents at home.

The latest update noted that the floodwater has subsided.
