SARIKEI: A mini zoo is being built by the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) here to spread awareness of handling poisonous animals, especially snakes, to the public.

Its chief Mahmudin Narudin said construction of the mini zoo is expected to be completed soon.

He said the mini zoo will house several species of snakes caught in special operations mounted by the department.

“Among the snake species that are often caught are the king cobra (ular tedung selar), python and Boiga dendrophila (ular tiung cincin emas).

“Through this mini zoo, we will share the knowledge of how to correctly handle the situation when faced with any poisonous creature,” he said.

Apart from the zoo, he said the department will also improve the orchid hut here to help beautify and brighten the station’s surrounding and ambience.

“We want to beautify the Ekosistem Kondusif Sektor Awam (EKSA or Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem) involving the Bomba Sarikei landscape,” he explained.
