MIRI: Cloud seeding might be the last option to help mitigate the persistent hot and dry weather in this division.

On Wednesday during the Miri Tourism Task Force meeting, Miri Bomba Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong proposed to Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin to carry out cloud seeding.

“Due to frequent open burning in Miri, several areas have unhealthy air quality,” Lee said.

He said this after chairing a task force meeting with various government agencies.

Subis District has more than 10 acres of land burned over the past few days.

“The smoke haze is also of concern because it affects our tourism sector,” he said.

While stressing that priority is to be given to the matter, he urged the public to cooperate to stop open burning during this dry season.

He added that Bomba is routinely monitoring the situation using their air unit.
