MIRI: The recent bush fires here saw the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Naim’s volunteer firefighting team working together to battle the blaze. Miri Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong in a statement yesterday disclosed that there was great synergy between the two teams.

“The volunteer firefighters are well-trained and able to speak the ‘Bomba language’ which played a vital role when working together under such conditions.

“Naim has also followed our advice by purchasing a new fire hose and high pressure pump, which are of great assistance in controlling and dousing the bush fires,” he said. He also thanked Naim for its contributions such as fuel for the water pump, and food and drinks for the teams on the ground.

Since its inception, the team has played an active role in helping put out bush fires in Miri’s Kuala Baram area. Currently, our team has a total of 25 volunteer firefighters,” he said, adding that the team would increase patrols during the dry weather.

“Besides patrols, we employ the use of technology, such as drones, to increase our efficiency, and construct fire breakers at various sites to prevent the spread of bush fires. We have also installed clear signage prohibiting trespassing and open burning at various sites.” Kong expressed his gratitude to Bomba for its guidance and support, and the volunteer firefighting team members for their perseverance and commitment.
