KUCHING: The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has opened a temporary flood transfer centre (PPS) in Siburan near here, which is currently housing a total of 22 victims.

According to the Bomba operation centre, the PPS, located at Kampung Betong Kanowit Hall, was opened at 6pm and had been taking in flood victims ever since.

The victims, consisting 12 adults, eight children and two senior citizens, are from Kampung Betong Kanowit, which is affected by rising waters.

On Monday, State Disaster Management Committee secretariat Maj (PA) Ismail Mahedin said Dewan Sri Buntal PPS was officially closed at 4pm.

A total of 51 victims affected by rising waters in their areas were sent back to their respective homes at Kampung Buntal and Kampung Sungai Lumut.

The victims, consisting 14 families, returned safely after reports of water levels subsiding.
