KUCHING: In light of the upcoming Christmas holiday, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has come up with a contingency plan for its staff affected by the recent freeze on annual leave.
Bomba director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said the contingency plan would ensure 10,500 personnel and officers were available at all times.
“We realised that many of our Sabahan and Sarawakian personnel would be celebrating Christmas at the end of the month and had to prepare for their absence,” he told a press conference after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Borneo-level Auxiliary Firefighters (PBS) Convention 2019 here yesterday.
Mohammad Hamdan said the office staff had already begun working at the Bomba operation centre (PGO) and Bomba operation management centre (PPO).
“Despite working office hours, they are being called upon from time to time to work at PGO and PPO respectively and are advised to always be on standby in case their services are required,” he said.
According to Mohammad Hamdan, Bomba has frozen annual leave preparations by its staff since September in preparation for floods during the ongoing monsoon season which is expected to end in February next year.
The contingency plan will also cover any emergency leave taken by the staff.
