PUTRAJAYA: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations to face the anticipated tropical storm in the east coast states of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

It has instructed the relevant fire and rescue stations to conduct monitoring and patrol along the coastal areas to ensure the safety of the people and be ready to render assistance when the need arises, the department said in a statement yesterday.

The states have been instructed to monitor the preparations of the department’s personnel and assets, and ensure that they are stationed at the strategic points to facilitate operations during an emergency, it added.

The statement said senior officers at the Bomba headquarters have been instructed to stand by round the clock at the operation management centres from Jan 2 to 5 to monitor the situation when the storm strikes and mobilise emergency aid involving personnel and assets to the affected states.

It said Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan have taken steps as instructed by the Bomba headquarters, such as conducting patrols and providing advice to the people in the coastal areas about the danger of the storm.

The statement said the tropical storm was expected to lash Kelantan and Terengganu with heavy rain and winds at speeds of 40km per hour that can damage coastal houses and other buildings, uproot trees and cause floods. – Bernama
