KUCHING: Five hikers who were stranded at Mount Santubong last night (Apr 30) have been rescued and brought down by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel.

It was reported that one of the hikers, a 70-year-old man, had sustained injuries to his face, body and knees during the hike.

A spokesperson department said first aid was administered to the injured victim before he was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Earlier, the department received an emergency call from Mount Santubong rangers around 8:30 pm to bring down five stranded hikers to the staging point at the foot of the mountain.

Firefighters from the Petra Jaya station were promptly deployed to the scene and hiked up the mountain to meet the victims with a stretcher and medical supplies.

At about 9:20 pm, the team found the hikers and guided them down the trail.

The operation ended around 10.05pm once the hikers were brought down to the foot of the mountain and the injured victim was taken to the hospital.

The stranded hikers are being guided down the trail to the foot of Mount Santubong.
