KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has revealed a scam involving individuals using the department’s name to offer fake supply tenders.
Sarawak Bomba acting director Tiong Ling Hii said so far, four cases have been reported in October, with scammers pretending to act on behalf of Bomba’s top officials, including the director-general and state director, to deceive unsuspecting suppliers.
“The perpetrators are reported to contact suppliers directly, presenting counterfeit letters of acceptance in an attempt to lure victims. However, none of the victims have reported financial losses, as they managed to verify the legitimacy of the tenders with JBPM before proceeding.
“In response, bomba Sarawak has filed a police report and is taking the matter seriously. We urge the public not to fall for any offers of supply contracts, especially those related to Sebutharga or direct procurement using Bomba’s name,” he said.
The fake tenders included contracts to supply vehicle spare parts and accessories to fire stations in Simunjan, Saratok, and Subis, targeting companies in Kuching, Sibu, and Miri, respectively.
