MUKAH: Kampung Tellian’s community leader and chief, Bonaventure Juana Lupuih has been chosen as Bapak Kaul Mukah for 2023.
The appointment was made by the Jawatankuasa Tetap Kaul Kakan Serahang Kaul Mukah 2023 and it comes after Slaman Tuna’s time as Bapak Kaul Mukah ended in 2019.
As the leader responsible for ensuring that the Kaul ceremony is carried out in line with tradition and customs passed down from generation to generation, the role of Bapak Kaul is highly valued in Melanau culture.
Bonaventure, 67, who is well-known in the community for his knowledge and respect for these traditions, is the right choice for the position.
Bonaventure will preside over the Kaul Kakan Serahang rite tomorrow (March 11) at Tugek Kuala Sungai Mukah as Bapak Kaul.
This ritual is a key occasion in the Melanau calendar, and having a renowned community leader like Bonaventure lead it assures that it is performed with the highest respect and adherence to tradition.
