KUCHING: The newly launched ‘Sarawak Women in Innovation and Technology’ book celebrates the contributions of women to innovation and technology said Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development said this when officiating at the launch of the book today at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (Aug 3).

“The newly launched book showcases the achievements of 26 Sarawakian women who have made remarkable strides in various technological fields such as mechanical, chemical, environmental, aerospace, bioprocess engineering, food processing, computer science, mathematics, agriculture, and special education.

“This publication underscores the role of Sarawakian women in pushing the boundaries of innovation and setting benchmarks in their respective disciplines,” she said.

Fatimah went on to commend the efforts of the Sarawak Women and Family Department’s (JWKS) for their continuous dedication to documenting the evolving roles and contributions of Sarawakian women since 2010.

She highlighted how previous publications have depicted women’s journeys from traditional roles to becoming influential figures in politics, sports, arts, and now, technology and innovation.

During her speech, she noted the importance of fostering an ecosystem that supports technological advancement and innovation, aligning with Sarawak’s strategic initiatives like the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy and the upcoming Sarawak Digital Economy Action Plan 2030.

These initiatives aim to transform the state into a tech-driven economy, enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.

Fatimah expressed hope that the book would serve as a source of inspiration and a reference point for future generations. She urged continuous support for such publications to celebrate and amplify the achievements of Sarawakian women in all fields.

The event also featured a sharing session with three personalities from the book, who provided insights into their careers in innovation and technology. It is aimed at inspiring the audience by showcasing real-life examples of how technology can drive societal progress.
