LAWAS: A book documenting the local heritage in Lawas entitled ‘Lawas: Memugar Khazanah Melestarikan Peradaban’ was launched by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan yesterday.
The book was compiled by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak. “This book is an effective and sustainable marketing of culture conservation and heritage tourism which could help boost the tourism industry in Lawas,” Awang Tengah said when launching the book and officiating at a seminar on local wisdom and cultures here on Thursday night.
He noted that the book contains many indigenous heritage which are found in Lawas apart from personalities, local history and tourist attractions.
Awang Tengah who is also International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Minister, hoped that the local cultures could be widely exhibited and documented for public viewing locally and internationally.
Also present during the book launching were Yayasan Amanah Khairat Sarawak managing director Datuk Dr Sanib Said, Lawas District officer Ladin Atok and DBP Sarawak director Abdul Wahab Hamzah.
