KUCHING: The Sarawak Housing Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA) has launched booth sales for the upcoming SHEDA Property Expo 2024.
Scheduled from September 6 to 8 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), this expo provides a platform for property developers and related trades to showcase their projects.
Organising chairman of SHEDA Property Expo 2024, Steve Tan, said the event is held to promote home ownership among Sarawakians.
“The state government’s Housing Deposit and Repayment Assistance Scheme (HDRAS), offering RM10,000 towards first home purchases, is a significant enabler,” he told a press conference at SHEDA office in Tabuan Stutong recently.
Tan also suggested expanding the initiative to cover all housing projects and increasing the deposit amount to RM30,000 or 10 per cent of the purchase price, whichever is lower, to further support homebuyers.
With 90 booth spaces available, SHEDA Property Expo 2024 aims to connect developers with potential buyers. Last year’s expo recorded transactions exceeding RM34 million in just three days, with 60 per cent of properties sold priced at RM500,000 and below.
When asked about the impact of the introduction of SST, Tan said, “By hook or by crook, we have to accept it. You cannot run away. However, I believe that with the assistance provided to buyers, it will ease some of the burden on their shoulders. Of course, the costs have already increased.”
Meanwhile, SHEDA secretary-general John Yong Lock Ping encouraged all purchasers to act quickly before prices are adjusted and increased, to lock in the current price.
SHEDA thanked the supporting organisations, including the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEX), and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
Non-property developers offering lifestyle-enhancing products or services are also encouraged to participate. Early bird discounts are available for exhibitors who register by June 14, 2024.
