KUCHING: Fifty-one women writers cum researchers have highlighted their life’s journey and outstanding works in two series of Sarawak Women in Scholarly Writing.
Minister for Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah stated the books would aid the government to tailor policies and programmes to meet the needs of the nation for the betterment of society.
“Through the books, Social Development Council (MPS) will be able to address the 12 pertinent social issues in a more integrated and targeted manner to undertake robust social interventions and activities.
“With the help of the researchers’ studies and findings, we are able to understand the way things are, how things happen, and what is responsible (for the social issues and problems),” she said at the launch of Sarawak Women in Scholarly Writing book held in conjunction with Women’s Day 2022 on Monday (Feb 21).
Fatimah reiterated that the immensely useful research works over the years by all 51 researchers have influenced government policies and development programmes.
“The high quality of their research works and the meticulous writing they did in documenting their high-impact findings have enabled their research to be published in high index journals, accessible not only to locals but also international users.
“It is so heartening to know that the findings of most of their research have gained international recognition, winning awards for their innovations and being invited to present their works at international conferences and seminars.
“This really speaks volume for the impact of their research for the global community,” she commended.
During the ceremony, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, wife of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who officiated at the event, handed over Ragad Foundation Education Fund amounting to RM5,000 each to two university students.
