BINTULU: The 16th edition of the prestigious Borneo International Kite Festival (BIKF), slated for Sept 4- Oct 4 has been postponed indefinitely.
A new date would be announced when the situation improved, said Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity & Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip.
The postponement was to abide by the measures to help break the chain of the Covid-19 pandemic, he added.
“The postponement also took into account the health security of the participants, the majority of whom are from abroad including the crew, volunteers, health and security team and over 200,000 expected visitors and kite enthusiasts,” he told a press conference to announcement the postponement of the event at a hotel here yesterday (July 29).
He said the decision was a painstaking one as it was a much awaited event,
BIKF is also listed as one of the major events in the state’s Tourism Ministry calendar of events.
It was first held in 2005 by the Bintulu Development Authority in collaboration with the Bintulu Resident’s Office, Bintulu District Office, government departments and agencies, corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations.
