BINTULU: The Borneo Makers Festival (BMF) Bintulu 2024 is an important platform to unearth the creativity and innovation of Sarawak’s youth in an effort to support socioeconomic development and sustainability.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh described this programme as a strategic step to develop the talents of the younger generation.
According to him, BMF is not just a festival but a comprehensive platform that provides space for youth to hone their technological skills, explore new innovations, and collaborate across various disciplines.
“BMF is proof that creativity and innovation can transform the potential of youth into valuable assets, while contributing to environmental sustainability. It is not just a festival, but an ecosystem that connects young talents with technology and the community.”
He said this during the event’s opening ceremony at NAIM Street Mall Bintulu Paragon, yesterday.
Apart from empowering individuals, BMF also aims to build a sustainable innovation ecosystem through multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Len Talif stressed that this initiative is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Sarawak’s aspiration to be a developed state by 2030.
“Technology and creativity not only support economic growth but also promote harmony with the environment. Initiatives like this ensure that Sarawak’s youth are prepared to face global challenges,” added the chairman of Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS).
BMF 2024 also offers exciting activities such as creative workshops, entrepreneurship exhibitions, and inspirational sharing sessions. With the presence of participants from various backgrounds, the festival is expected to produce a generation of youth who are capable of shaping a more innovative and sustainable future.
He stressed that this programme also reflects Sarawak’s commitment through the continued support of TEGAS Digital Village and TEGAS Innovation Hub in designing high-impact programmes to support local entrepreneurs and startups.
“BMF is a platform to unearth the potential of youth and drive a more creative and sustainable economic transformation.”
Therefore, he hopes that the organisation of the programme can, to some extent, support Sarawak’s efforts towards the status of a developed state by 2030, with the support of initiatives such as the TEGAS Digital Village and TEGAS Innovation Hub.
“This festival is proof of Sarawak’s commitment in producing a young generation who are creative, innovative, and ready to shape a sustainable future.”
