KUCHING: Borneo Runway Project: Fashion Design Competition 2021 has successfully concluded with the Grand Finale Fashion Showcase on Wednesday (Jan 26) as part of efforts to boost fashion tourism among others.

According to its statement on Sunday (Jan 29), Borneo Runway Project business model was to organise two fashion design competitions and three fashion shows per year in Borneo.

“The format for subsequent series in coming years is to be revised accordingly based on the progress and market’s feedback,” it said, adding that the supporting partners of the programme are StartUp Borneo, Kampung Heritage and ApertureKch.

As for the Borneo Runway Project: Fashion Design Competition 2021, it is a joint initiative by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation, Serba DigitalX, Jamie Bush Events and bookd!.

“The joint initiative is to implement technology in the fashion industry, boost fashion tourism and promote Sarawak as a creative hub of Borneo with the end goal of contributing towards the economic growth in the region,” it mentioned.

The competition was held for two gruelling months which was filled up with a preparation and marketing campaign in December 2021.

“Through the campaign, awareness and momentum in the region was successfully created  followed by the Qualifying Round on January 15 to select Top 5 Finalists,” it shared.

Noting that the programme was hosted by Serba DigitalX as a platform to promote digital technology and creative talent, the Grand Finale of Borneo Runway Project took place at D’Arena Event Space, D-Virtual Park at Kota Samarahan featuring the final garments from the top five finalists via the filming of Fashion Showcase.

“Second runner-up, first runner-up and winner titles were won by Gilbert Francis Untam (Gilbert Headhunter), Jefferyson Adam Henry Adam (Effie Jefferyson @ Indu Borneo) and Nasarudin Latep (Nasha Prive) respectively while the consolation went to John Flaner and Anabel Phoebe,” it said, adding that the winning prizes consists of cash prizes, professional mentorship programme and exclusive gifts from the product sponsors

Prizes for the winners of the competition were given away by Serba Dinamik Group Manager Muliawadi Imran.
