SIBU: Newly elected president of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Mandarin Sibu Boston Ho has vowed to keep the legacy of the organisation that his predecessors had left behind.

He pointed out that JCI Mandarin Sibu was indispensable to his childhood since its incorporation in 1997.

“Having personally witnessed the glorious days and the level of dedication by my predecessors, I am determined to keep up the legacy that they have left behind and to manage our chapter in an efficient and good manner.

“My primary objective during my tenure is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where members could grow and create positive social impacts through meaningful projects.

“I’m deeply honoured to announce that since late last year till to date, we have recruited more than 30 new members from diverse backgrounds such as professionals and entrepreneurs,” he stated in his maiden speech at the JCI Mandarin Sibu’s 27 installation ceremony cum award banquet over luncheon held in Regalia Ballroom, Kingwood hotel here today.

Ho, who took over from the outgoing president Alex Kong, led his newly elected 2023 Board of Directors to a swearing-in ceremony before Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek and JCI Area Sarawak chairman Johnny Bong who represented the JCI national president Matt Ngai.

Ho also reflected on the values and traditions that are enshrined in this organisation.

He said JCI Mandarin Sibu is the first JCI Chapter in Malaysia that adopts or allows Mandarin to be the communication medium in chapter affairs.

“It was the wish of our founder, Datuk Betty Wong Yieng as there are many youths in the Chinese community who are not versed in English and that language barrier became the hurdle for them to join JCI.

“Sure enough, such a groundbreaking initiative has attracted many resistances from not only local level but also on national level.

“I have witnessed the days where our past presidents and past members had worked so hard so to show others that how much we JCI Mandarin Sibu could achieve. They had been awarded with accolades on national, Asia Pacific, and even on world levels,” he noted.

Thanking the founder and past presidents for their generous financial sponsorship to the chapter’s annual activities, he assured that the chapter would make good use of them in bringing values to the chapter and the community.

He also expressed his gratitude to Chieng who is the chapter’s very own past president for having worked and struggled so hard in serving the community and now an elected Bukit Assek assemblyman.

“It is not inapt for me to describe him as our proud product that we JCI Mandarin Sibu is a great platform to nurture and produce leaders in our community.

“Even when he has been so occupied as an assemblyman, Chieng has always kept JCI Mandarin Sibu in mind and also under his wings,” Ho added.
