KUCHING: Boxers who have been selected to represent Sarawak for the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) should uphold discipline at all times.

Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said the association would not compromise with any athletes facing issues, and will not hesitate to exclude them from the final squad.

He said the association has a track record of contributing medals during SUKMA and hoped this legacy is maintained, particularly during the upcoming SUKMA where Sarawak will be the host.

“As an athlete, discipline is crucial. Regardless of talent, without discipline, you will fail. Thus, having vital in sports,” he said  during a gathering organised by SABA at his residence here last night (Apr 18).

He urged selected boxing athletes to prove their worthiness in the SUKMA squad.

“This is due to many other boxing athletes outside who aspire to represent Sarawak and are prepared to seize spots already secured by others,” he said, adding that he wants to see athletes who are still on the long boxing list to demonstrate their abilities at the Sarawak Open Boxing Championship next month and secure their positions in the state squad.
