SIBU: A pet dog turned on one of its owners, a young boy aged five-and-a-half years old, giving him nasty bite wounds on his left leg.

The unexpected incident happened on Sunday (May 24) at the family home around 3pm in Taman Sanhill Barat, here.

The doctor who attended to the victim notified the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) about the incident at 1pm yesterday (Monday).

The council said in a press statement that it called up the victim’s mother to get details of the incident.

“The council then despatched several staff to the house. When we arrived, we found that the dog had died at 8.30am on Monday.

“The carcass was sent to the Veterinary Department at 4.10pm yesterday to determine if the dog had rabies,” SRDC said.

Sibu Division Health Officer Dr Teh Joh Hun, when contacted, said his department was investigating the incident.

Dr Teh said the victim has been given an anti-rabies jab.
