KUCHING: It was a tragedy for the family of 12-year-old Haiqal Hakimi bin Zolpaka who died of his injuries in fireworks mishap.
According to family members, Haiqal was excited about the coming Hari Raya and was playing fireworks by himself outside their house at Kampung Bintawa Hilir, Petra Jaya near here last Friday.
His father suddenly heard a loud explosion and rushed out to find Haiqal bleeding on the ground. His neighbours rushed over to help before sending Haiqal to the Sarawak General Hospital.
State CID chief, Dato’ Dev Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act for negligent. He said it was most unfortunate for such an incident to occur and police had always sent out alerts during all festivals to warn people not to play with fireworks and firecrackers which are banned.
Last Saturday morning, a police team went to the house of the deceased to conduct an investigation. The family has been very co-operative with the police.
