KUCHING: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in most parts of the world. However, breast cancer awareness amongst Malaysian women is still relatively poor and this has called for the need to up the ante on initiatives to educate the public on breast cancer.
Answering the call, the management of Riverside Shopping Complex, (RSC) in partnership with the Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak, last Saturday conducted the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at RSC. A line-up of activities, such as breast cancer talk, breast selfexamination demonstration, Pink Ribbon distribution, blood donation, basic health screening, facial screening, aero dance exercise and flea market were organised during the one-day event.
Present to grace the occasion was Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali. Sharifah Hasidah spent a fair amount of time at the event as she sat in to listen to the talk and demonstration, made her rounds to the activity counters and the flea market thereafter participated in the aero dance session.
Speaking at the event, Sharifah Hasidah highlighted the importance of practising a healthy lifestyle through active engagement in physical exercice and healthy eating habits in maintaining the health in general.
The breast cancer talk was delivered by the President of Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak, Hajah Suriani Haji Rapawie, while the breast self-examination demonstration was moderated by Hajah Rosmah Yahya. Blood donation, basic health screening and facial screening on the other hand, were manned by staff of Normah Medical Specialist Centre.
