SHAH ALAM: Carlsberg Malaysia recently hosted its inaugural Supplier Day, emphasising environmental and social governance in responsible supply chain managemeant as part of its commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions.
According to a press statement issued by Carlsberg Malaysia, the event gathered 64 upstream and manpower suppliers, who were briefed on the company’s expectations for responsible sourcing and human rights compliance.
During the event, key issues were discussed by guest speakers from the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei (UNGCMYB), Capital Markets Malaysia, and Sedex Asia.
Suppliers were encouraged to stay informed on local and international labour and environmental regulations. Carlsberg Malaysia placed significant emphasis on human rights principles, including fair labour practices, anti-discrimination measures, and protecting the rights of employees and contract workers.
As a member of Sedex, the brewer urged suppliers to join the platform to improve their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and achieve sustainability goals.
Carlsberg Malaysia is also an early adopter of the Simplified ESG Disclosure Guide (SEDG), developed by Capital Markets Malaysia to streamline ESG reporting, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
This reinforces the company’s commitment to helping suppliers adopt responsible sourcing practices and meet reporting standards.
Managing director of Carlsberg Malaysia Stefano Clini said that since their launching of ‘Together towards ZERO and Beyond’ ESG programme two years ago, the company made significant progress in its mission to ‘Brew for a Better Today and Tomorrow.
“We aim to achieve zero carbon emissions in our brewery by 2030, but we cannot do it alone. We invite our suppliers to collaborate with us on this journey towards a green transition,” he added.
Industry experts also shared insights during the event, including Sudarsan Chandra Sekharan from UN Global Compact Network Academy, who presented case studies on sustainable business practices.
These highlighted the importance of collaboration between companies and their supply chains in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing resource efficiency.
Other speakers included Clare Lam from Sedex Asia and Navina Balasingam from Capital Markets Malaysia, who discussed ESG standards and responsible sourcing practices.
