KUCHING: The establishment of the Batang Rambungan bridge shows the Sarawak government is committed to meeting the needs of the people.
Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said the construction of the bridge was long awaited by locals in Lundu but was cancelled by the Pakatan Harapan government.
“However, taking into account the importance of the project, it is being pursued by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.
“When completed, the bridge will definitely boost the growth of the tourism industry from Lundu to Telok Melano.
“It will also increase the income of the villagers including the food operators and crafts and homestay entrepreneurs,” she told reporters.
The earth-breaking ceremony for the bridge today is expected to be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
