KAPIT: The new bridge at Nanga Yong is not just an infrastructure project but symbolises the efforts to unite Peninsular Malaysia with Sarawak and Sabah, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We want to reunite both sides of Malaysia, and under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, I believe that our country will remain peaceful, prosperous, and continue to progress in the future,” he said.

He stated this during his speech at the Community Leaders’ Gathering at Rumah Panjang Robert, Nanga Sebatu, here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, speaking on development, Abang Johari mentioned that Sarawak continues to make progress in the development of the Rajang Basin area with the establishment of several dedicated development agencies.

“Among them are the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), the Mid Rajang Region Development Agency (MiRRDA), and the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).

“All of these were established to focus on the development we aim to bring to the Rajang Basin,” he added.

Therefore, Abang Johari expressed his gratitude to the federal government under the leadership of Anwar as the prime minister for providing full support through the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) in efforts to develop the area.

“I am very pleased to work with Datuk Seri Anwar. He always supports us, and this is due to the trust and confidence we have in each other. Just as I believe in all of you who are united in supporting the development of our region,” he added.

Earlier, Abang Johari and Anwar visited the project site for the bridge. The new bridge project will connect the Nanga Belawai road to the Song-Kapit road.

However, both Abang Johari and Anwar did not disclose the project cost.

Also present were federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Deputy Minister of Digital Communications MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, who is also Hulu Rajang, and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
