SIMANGGANG: Over 20 suspension bridges and eight concrete bridges have been built in the Simanggang constituency to connect the people from different villages and to ease their travels.
Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the construction of bridges would also facilitate the development of idle lands and areas with agriculture potentials.
“I have foreseen the need for those bridges long ago as I believe that they will provide long-term benefits to the people, especially those who are eager to develop their lands.
“Handing out cash aid is a temporary solution and will only provide short-term benefits to the rakyat.
“If you give a hungry man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you teach him how to fish or give him the proper tools to fish, you feed him for a lifetime,” he said.
He commented that unlike the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, the opposition parties were not interested in delivering their promises.
“They will say that they are not able to do so because they are in the opposition but they continue to promise the sky and the moon to the people. Their political style will cause the rakyat to suffer and be deprived of development.
“I am aware that there are certain tuai rumah who felt disappointed because some of their needs were not fulfilled. They even went against the GPS government by conspiring with the opposition.
“My advice is, be aware of the oppositions’ tactics. You might see them distributing rice in order to win the people’s heart, but everyone knows it will only benefit the rakyat in the short-term. Only the GPS government is able to provide the allocation that brings long-term benefits,” said Harden.
