JAKARTA: Indonesia’s digital economy is booming, demonstrating the country’s eagerness to integrate digital technology into everyday life.

The convenience of completing tasks and conducting transactions online, with just a smartphone, has become a norm in this digital age.

Digital wallets, particularly, have gained popularity for their ability to facilitate payments, store balances, and integrate bank cards. Among these, DANA stands out in Indonesia with a remarkable user base of 170 million last year.

The establishment of Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, is anticipated to extend benefits to neighbouring Malaysian states, especially Sabah and Sarawak.

“We (DANA) have no problem establishing close collaboration with Malaysia in the digital economy field. Moreover, the significant Indonesian workforce in Malaysia presents a substantial opportunity for inclusive collaboration,” said CEO of DANA Indonesia Vincent Iswara during a visit by the Malaysia-Indonesia Friendship Association (ISWAMI) to his office here recently.

The visit, led by Mohd Shukri Ishak, secretary-general of ISWAMI Malaysia and Head of Broadcasting at BERNAMA, spotlighted the regional payment connectivity initiative within ASEAN.

Vincent highlighted DANA’s role in facilitating cross-border payments through QR codes, enabling seamless transactions for Indonesian and Malaysian citizens using QRIS or DuitNow QR codes.

This partnership is expected to offer more transaction options, enhancing economic efficiency and stability in the ASEAN region.
