KUCHING: With Santubong incumbent Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar standing behind Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Santubong Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, it shows that she is acceptable by the people of Santubong parliamentary seat.
In stating this, GPS publicity and media relations chairman Datuk Idris Buang pointed out that if Nancy were elected as the Santubong MP, the parliamentary constituency would have a good future ahead.
“Aside from her capability as an MP, Nancy is the (caretaker) Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Meaning, she is more than capable of upgrading the area as part of the tourism belt.
“She has the ideas and capabilities to upgrade the area. That is because not only is she the figure of Sarawak, she is also an asset to Malaysia,” he said.
He said this during the 15th general election (GE15) Chit Chat session at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Headquarters here on Today (Nov 12).
While stating that Nancy is Santubong born, he clarified that her nomination to be the Santubong candidate does not have any hidden agenda behind it.
“It is normal for us in PBB or GPS to field our best candidate for any area while taking into consideration the need of the area as well as the strength of the candidate.
“For us to field her in Santubong, there is no hidden reasoning or internal issue for the decision,” he disclosed.
For the record, the Santubong parliamentary seat is a PBB stronghold and was held by Wan Junaidi for four terms.
As he chose to step down, GPS decided to field Nancy, who was the Batang Sadong MP for three terms, in his stead.
This GE15, Nancy will be facing a three-cornered fight against Mohamad Zen Peli from Parti Amanah Negara and Affendi Jeman who is an Independent candidate.
