KUCHING: People who are unable to walk are encouraged to bring their own wheelchairs when getting the Covid-19 vaccine jabs at Stadium Perpaduan here.

Chinese community leader Temenggong Datuk Tan Joo Phoi noted that there was a lack of wheelchairs at the venue to cater for those who might need mobility support.

“I think most of the elderly people have wheelchairs at home.

“Therefore, I wish to advise them to bring their own wheelchairs to the vaccination centre.

“This would reduce their reliance on the wheelchairs provided just in case they are unavailable.”

He told the media this when monitoring the second phase of the immunisation programme at the venue on Friday (April 23).

Tan was also delighted that the implementation ran smoothly and in an orderly manner.

“I also commend the efforts of the medical team for allocating a special lane for the elderly whereby upon registration, they would be prioritised for vaccination and do not have to wait for too long.”

Singing the same praise, Pemanca Datuk John Tiong said the Ministry of Health (MOH) was doing a good job.

“From checking the participants’ temperature right through the registration process until the process of giving jabs, it was smoothly done.

“Of course some might point out small ‘kickouts’ here and there but you are dealing with so many people. Therefore, as a whole, the organising team is doing very well.”

He also complimented the organising team for their preparedness and looking thoroughly into all kinds of difficulties that a participant may encounter.

“For instance, they prepared wheelchairs. They also helped the elderly in and out of the car. They also provide translators.”

Tiong reminded the public to bring along their medical history reports so that medical personnel could assess their health status prior to getting vaccinated.

At the venue, there is also a sick bay in the event of any health problem among the recipients. There is also an ambulance on standby.
