KUCHING: Everyone knows Takoyaki (grilled octopus ball), the famous and irresistible Japanese street snack – but where to find them in Kuching?
There is one eatery that has been getting the attention of social media recently, and it is called Takonut.
The eatery sells high-quality Takoyaki and their premium Takoyaki set starts from just RM10.
Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune, the founder of Takonut, Aaron Ting, 38, said he loved Takoyaki and that was why his business started.
“I started venturing into food and beverages (F&B) business in 2019. It was a rocky journey as we were hit by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
“Then, we started the Takoyaki business because I’m a Takoyaki lover and it is difficult to find a shop locally that sells similar taste or premium quality Takoyaki that I have tried in Japan before,” he said.
He shared that he started to build the Takoyaki brand with his team from scratch to bring high-quality Takoyaki to Sarawak.
“What motivated me to open a business was to find an opportunity to export Sarawak brands to the international market.
“And, to open this business, is also to create more job opportunities in Sarawak,” he said.
On the challenges faced, he said he had encountered many throughout his business journey.
“However, I’m grateful that I have a supportive team to solve the issue together and grow together,” he said.
“And my team and my family members give me encouragement and support to run my business.
He also hoped that one day he could bring his local brand out of Sarawak and become the pride of Sarawak.
“My dream is to build up our local brand and to be well-known worldwide.
“Therefore, my advice to small business owners is be passionate in whatever you do,” he said.
Currently, Takonut stall is located at Sentosa Food Street, E-mart Moyan, and to be opened soon at Peach Garden, Jalan Song.
Customers can visit Takonut at their Facebook page, Instagram or TikTok or contact 019-8182838.
