KUCHING: Brooke Holding Sdn Bhd (BHSB) has forged a strategic alliance with SLB (formerly Schlumberger) to propel Sarawak’s journey towards becoming a frontrunner in Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS).
The partnership, solidified in the presence of the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abng Johari Tun Openg at the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition (APGH) 2024, signals a significant stride towards aligning environmental sustainability with economic prosperity.
BHSB said the collaboration extensively on the technical and technological aspects of establishing a robust Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) hub in Sarawak.
“This cooperation will encompass the full lifecycle of CCS development, including subsurface and surface evaluation, storage capacity assessment, and safety assurance.
“Comprehensive economic evaluations will ensure project viability, and advanced technologies will be identified and implemented for effective CCS, with thorough risk assessments to mitigate potential issues,” the statement read.
The partnership between BHSB and SLB is poised to harness cutting-edge innovations in the pursuit of safe CCS storage sites, bolstered by continuous monitoring mechanisms to uphold regulatory compliance and environmental integrity.
Additionally, this initiative aims to foster local skills development and create value within the community, contributing to Sarawak’s sustainable growth.
With Sarawak’s net-zero aspirations at its core, this collaboration signifies a pivotal stride towards positioning the region as a prominent player in the global CCUS landscape.
