KUCHING: Two brothers were today released on cash bail of RM10,000 each with two local sureties after pleading not guilty to smuggling in eight foreigners.

High Court Judge Alexander Siew ordered Tchong Boon Siong, 22, and Tchong Chen Peng, 30, to hand over their international passports to the court and set November 1 to 3 for trial.

The duo was charged with offences under Section 26A of the Anti -Smuggling of Migrants and Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007.

They were accused of committing the offence at 9.30pm at KM7 junction, Jalan Kampung Padang Pan/Kpg Gumbang near Bau on May 8.

Deputy public prosecutor Yong Suk Hui appeared for the prosecution while the two accused were represented by lawyer Lim Lian Kee.
