KUCHING: A 86-year-old man has died – two days after being discharged from the Sibu Hospital.

Mail Gambung was admitted to the hospital on the night of May 28 after being beaten by his stepson, 61, in their longhouse at Ganja Putus Paku, Spaoh, Betong.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai said that Mail had quarrelled with his stepson who whacked him twice with a piece of wood.

After that, the stepson sent Mail to the hospital. Two days ago, the 86-year-old was discharged and brought back to the longhouse.

However, Mail died early yesterday morning and his remains were brought to the Sarawak General Hospital morgue yesterday morning for a post mortem.

Denis said police had classified the incident as “sudden death” and were waiting for the result of the post mortem.

He said if the post mortem revealed that Mail’s death was related to being beaten up, they would charge his stepson.
