MIRI: The Ministry of Transport Brunei has officially received Ministry of Transport Malaysia’s letter regarding the recent shift to digital road tax and driving licenses, according to Sarawak Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
“In a direct discussion with Her Excellency Noni Zurainah Ismi, the Consul General of Brunei in Kuching, I’ve confirmed it,” he said in a statement today (Nov 14).
This digital transformation, initiated in February 2023, involves Malaysia’s Vehicle License (e-LKM) and Driving License (e-LMM). The move has sparked concerns among the public, particularly for frequent travellers between Miri and Brunei.
In response to these concerns, Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, has revealed ongoing efforts to secure Brunei’s acceptance of this digital system.
Lee reassured the public that traditional LKM stickers and LMM documents are still available during this transition period.
“According to Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) director Norizan Jili this morning, the department continues to issue these documents at our offices,” he said.
Importantly, Lee noted that there have been no reported issues in Brunei concerning the use of digital licenses and road taxes, whether in screenshot or printed form.
For drivers in areas with limited internet, Lee emphasised the availability of the e-LMM and e-LKM on the MyJPJ app, which can be downloaded and used when necessary.
