KOTA SAMARAHAN: The 1st Anniversary celebration of Batang Sadong Bridge will be held on 31 December, 2017 to mark the bridge’s one year of launching on 18 December, 2016.
The celebration will be organised by Samarahan Resident Office in collaboration with Samarahan Youth and Sports Office and Batang Sadong Community Service Office.
Three events will be highlighted during the celebration, namely Batang Sadong Bridge New Year’s Eve Walk, 2018 New Year Concert and 1st Anniversary of Batang Sadong Bridge Programme.
The celebration will be officiated at by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri who is also Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong. According to Simunjan Assemblyman, Awla Dris up to date 1,120 participants have registered for the 3km return walk on the bridge. “Our maximum number of participants is 1,500.
Entrance is free and T-shirts will also be given free to the participants. They are also entitled for lucky draws where the grand prize is a motorcycle and other attractive prizes, “This is an extension of last year’s run which attracted 1,920 participants. Every year we will come out with new activities to commemorate anniversary,” said Awla during a press conference at Samarahan Resident’s Office here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, the concert will be enlivened with performances by Malaysian artistes namely Dato’ Nash and Ani Mayuni, and a local popular singer, Ricky El. Fireworks display and special gimmick will also be held during the countdown to the New Year at 12 midnight.
“Besides, during the celebration, there will be a free health screening by the Health Department and Food Sales booths by residents of Kampung Sungai Buluh and PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) of SK Sungai Buluh,” said a Special Officer to Dato Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Azizi Johari.
He added that during the celebration, the bridge will be closed to the public for one hour from 9pm until 10pm. “Members of the public are advised to manage their time to avoid congestion during the celebration. Notices on this matter will be put up along the road for the information of the public,” said Azizi.
