KUALA LUMPUR: The focus on education in the Budget 2025 signals the government’s recognition of its role as a key driver for national development, says Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
He noted that education, alongside healthcare, is among the federal government’s primary focuses for 2025.
“Within education, there are many subject areas such as technology, ICT, and higher education. This is a step towards transitioning into the digital era. Therefore, education is one of the key areas for us to become more competitive compared to other countries.
“The second focus I see is healthcare. This means that outdated clinics or hospitals that are lacking in terms of beds will be addressed. This is one of the positive aspects I observe in terms of the allocations for the year 2025,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters at the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak (LBAS) 2024 programme at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today (Oct 19).
Meanwhile, regarding his ministry, Ugak said they received a development allocation of RM1.3 billion.
“We are moving towards a digital economy, and this allocation will be utilised throughout Malaysia for the benefit of our citizens. One of the issues frequently mentioned is scams.
“So, we will raise awareness. Through this awareness, many things will be achieved. We have awareness programmes such as the Digital Tour, which will help people in rural areas understand the concept of digitalisation.
“It will also help protect rural communities from scams, which have become quite rampant lately,” he added.
He also stressed that changes in the world, particularly technological advancements, must be embraced by all sectors.
