KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to allocate the budget for the construction of the Sarawak Cancer Centre.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian played a crucial role in advocating for the establishment of the cancer centre during Anwar’s visit.
“This is great news for every Sarawakian, and a significant advancement in the state’s healthcare,” said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pujut Branch Youth chief Kelvin Hii, who also praised Dr Sim for his sincere efforts and described him as a genuine politician and leader for Sarawak.
Hii, who is also SUPP Central publicity and information secretary, stressed the importance of concrete actions in advocating for the people, stating that mere criticism and political theatrics are insufficient for progress.
He highlighted the achievements of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government in initiating projects such as the Pan Borneo Highway, constructing bridges, developing technology, and implementing carbon technology.
“These developments have been made possible due to the stable political foundation in Sarawak and the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.”
Hii believed that the allocation for the Sarawak Cancer Centre signified a significant advancement in healthcare and would save lives, while also potentially attracting medical tourists and boosting revenue.
However, he also expressed the need for improved healthcare facilities in northern Sarawak, as healthcare falls under federal jurisdiction.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring access to quality healthcare services for residents in the northern region, as the vast land area of Sarawak could make it inconvenient for them to travel to the southern region for treatment.
