BINTULU: The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHEDA) has been urged to build more affordable houses, especially here.
Tanjong Batu assemblyman, Johnny Pang, said this would enable low-income people to own their own homes.
With this in mind he intends to continue raising this issue at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sittings.
“As a representative of the people in the Tanjong Batu area, it is my responsibility to increase the availability of affordable housing.
“This will enable our young families to buy their own homes,” he said while officiating at the SHEDA Bintulu Property Expo 2024 at Times Square Mega Mall, on Friday.
He emphasised that the Sarawak government is dedicated to ensuring every family owns a home.
To achieve that goal, he said, the government has introduced the Housing Deposit and Repayment Assistance Scheme (HDRAS), which aims to help low-income families by providing RM10,000 for a downpayment or a subsidy of up to RM200 per month for 48 months for eligible first-time buyers.
Pang also praised SHEDA for promoting the scheme and also for its continued contribution to Sarawak’s real estate sector.
